About Us

The Mission of The Lakeplace Foundation is:

To provide this highly spiritual place for members of Minnesota statewide Alano Societies and persons from other AA, NA or Alanon groups to come to share their own “strengths, hopes and experiences”.

Lakeplace Retreat Center Inc. opened its doors in 1989 as a place for men and women from our Riverplace Counseling Centers to participate in a 4th and 5th Step Retreat. There was no charge for this additional Riverplace service. Eventually, over six thousand Riverplace clients enjoyed the opportunity to visit this beautiful facility. In 2006 we licensed Lakeplace as a DHS Rule 31 program. Lakeplace has always been available for AA groups and non-profits who serve recovering persons and more recently for family members and alumni of Lakeplace.

I started my journey in sobriety in 1976, followed by Bev in 1979. With an ever since eternal gratitude to God, by His working through our friends in AA, we have come to this uncertain, exciting, next part of our journey.

It is our hope and prayer for you and your friends in our fellowship you may find here, in this special spiritual north woods setting, some or all and more of what has been possible for us.
